Steering linkage issues

This has been going on since I bought the truck, not sure why. When you turn the wheel, the steering linkage pivots back and forth. You can hear it clunk inside the cab when it does it. I have made sure everything is greased up, all good there. None of the joints have excessive play in them. I was hoping it would go away when I pulled the add-a-leafs out, no such luck. Drag link and track bar are parallel as best I can tell. Its not a major problem, just annoying. Any ideas?

are you trying to say that the linkage is rotating while it turns the wheels?
I always figured that to be normal.

No steering stabilizer?

As for a clunk. I'd check the spline on the steering box.
They can get some slop in them, and do strange things like that.

Check for a nice tight fit on your pitman arm as well. What's the condition of your end link boots?

Turn the wheel one way and the whole linkage assembly pivots up. Turn it the other way and it pivots down. Mostly the drag link between the pitman arm and passenger side.
No steering stabilizer.
Pitman arm is OEM, never removed or touched and seems plenty tight. End link boots are decent, one was torn from all the moving around in the wrong direction so I replaced it.

Chase, tighten up your fender bolts, both sides.
They are probably snug but go another turn or two.

hahaha yea, I bet you Jim is right on that. Funny way to fix it. =)

The pitman arm can seem tight, but it will move up and down the shaft. You really have to have somebody turn the wheel and watch it closely.

Mine does the same thing ,I removed the tie rod ends & put a round rubber bushing on them to quiet them down ...
