Installed downpipe and removed cat, now...

Installed downpipe and removed cat, now outside the truck sounds the same as before, but the inside of the cab is all but quiet. Sounds like it's really resonating in the cab, is this normal, or is there something i need to look at. I could understand all the excess noise if it were noisy outside. I still have the stock muffler.

Also, do I need to reset the computer after these mods? I haven't got the money for a tuner yet.

Down pipe is hitting the firewall, you need to bend the firewall back more.

Alright, I crawled my happy butt back under there for the 50th time, I see where it's touching. It's just barley touching that seem that I bent around on for 3 hours yesterday till I finally found a 2x4 long enough to bend it out of the way. I wished I could get it clearanced more without having to take all this apart again. Looks like I need to move it about a 1/4 inch.

Sometimes you can monkey them around and get it to line up without touching anything.

its difficult though. You have something that doesn't really pivot in a decent way to solve the touching problems.
Then you have other parts that put stresses on those, and with the trans cross-member in the way, it makes lining everything up a pita from a 2 piece down pipe.

You'll be happier when you get it working right.
Lower EGt's and a bit more throat on the turbo.

With all the restrictions of the stock down pipe, you'll like the better breathing truck
I cannot say that it will be quieter from it though.

I expected more noise, but I figured since there wasn't muck difference outside the truck, there shouldn't be much inside either. I can hear the turbo whistle now somewhat, sounds like I have another problem with the truck, like the turbo starts winding up, then it hits a dead spot, and then it goes some more. I've changed the fuel filter, and cleaned the fpr screen. I'm wondering if the turbo needs a rebuild.

I like a man with a sense of humor ...

Positioning the down pipe by yourself can be challenging. I finally put a wedge (tire iron) up top between the down pipe and exhaust, about 3/8" then went under and pivoted the lower portioned of the pipe away from the fire wall seam a bit. Leave the wedge in there until everything is tightened up then remove. Worked good for me and Ive not had to mess with it since.

I might loosen it up and try that.

I still have the stock intake, waiting for more cash to complete the mod.

Good deal. You'll be happy with a 6637 or similar intake. It'll breathe better, better MPG's, and you'll hear the turbo whistle more.

Clay has the complete 6637 kit for a very reasonable price.

Got it, me and my buddy the 2x4 got back under there after pulling the downpipe back off and made plenty of room. I wedged my buddy the 2x4 in there and my other friend, big hammer pounded on the bottom of it. I think I could've thrown a cat thru there after that. The upper part dropped right in, tightened her up and almost seems quieter than stock now. I'll have to look into that intake now.
