Hi all, first post here,so I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this? I just got a 2002 F250 4x4 super-duty diesel. Whats happening is the batteries keep going dead. I can't say how fast because I just got it tonight, but I'm told that they will be dead by the morning. I think what the cause might be is the relay that lets the power stay on to the radio, power windows & other interior power items, UNTIL you open the door. Because I can open & close the door many times & all these things stay on. Does anyone else think that this might be the problem? If it is, where do I find this relay to change it? Thanks for any help.
All those items you mentioned that stay "hot" when you open the door should eventually time out even if the door is never opened.
There is a battery saver relay in the central junction box. I think all those items you mentioned run through it. There is a possibility the GEM (generic electronic module) is defective. It controlls the relay.
I went to FORD today and got a new switch (DOOR AJAR SWITCH) as the ford tech said that this is probably the part thats shot. But its mounted inside the door behind the panel I guess. Does anyone have any hints/tricks for getting this off easily? I pried out the panel a little & I can't even see any clips.
I am skeptical that it is the door switch. Like I said before, those items that are staying on should time out if you don't open the door.
You are probably right, but power doesn't go off when I open the door so I'll try this first. Then work on the rest of the problems if they don't go away. Another "clue" that I should have posted in post #1 is that the door locks click & clack off & on quite a bit after the key is turned off. Also the ABS light & door ajar light on the dash stay on when it's running.
you are welcome longland hope it helps. it could be the GEM MODULE like thombb said but... you would need EDS software (ford item) to check it out. it would run a check on the module and tell you if there were any problems. but check the easy things first.
Jeez how time flies! We ended up putting it in the stealership just after my last post. Had a fair bit done.
New batteries as both were shot, new computer, it was blown from water running into it from the window pillar, new door switches.
Since then it's been running great except it has started surging as I slowly increase my speed. It idles smooth though. Sorry for the long delay in updating the thread, I hate when that happens.
