On the dash there is the wait to start light ,I have a manual GP sys, love it,the old lights are still in there with a wad of wires hooked to the back.Do those wires only go to the old GP sys and can they be eliminated?I need that spot for something else.
On the 86 that diesel warning panel has three lights.
Wait to Start
Engine overheat
Water in fuel
Given the location, in many instances, especially if you are fairly tall, you will not see the lights come on while driving unless you specifically look down there.
Thanks dave, I want to use that space to put two power plugs,I dont have one since I took the ashtray assembly out and put my CB in that spot.,BTW Dave the instrument panel pic in your album, did you make that or is it availible? I really like it
I think Dave built his panel. As for the tach I don't see why you couldn't put one in. I think they put a clock Or something in the place it would be. Find the tach outof a suitable year and a tach sensor and wire it in. I know that the wiring is on here some where. I used it when I hooked mine up going from gasser to diesel instrument panel.
Actually that dash was done by a member here several years ago.
And I have no idea who it was.
If you get the insturment panel out of a diesel with a tach, you should have the wiring in the stock harness.
So you just plug the insturment cluster in on one end and add a tach sensor to the engine.
If the cluster does not have a tach, the printed circuit on the back will not have the correct circuits for the tach.
When I added mine, I just bought a complete cluster and changed it out.
I was just on the local upull sight and they have instrument clusters for $25! i might have to run over there and snag one for a 83-86 diesel. I will have to wire the tach in again myself tho lol.
