Had my 2011 for two weeks now. Love the torque, quiet snort, and high mileage so far. Pulled my 24 Ft. 8,000# boat a short 3 miles this past weekend. I was pleasantly surprised at the acceleration up hill and how smooth it ran under load.
My Legend 27 Ft. trailer has 400# tongue weight and drops the rear 2" and the front raises 1". Looking into adding my old Airlift bags for leveling. Stumbled on the Firestone R4 Tech suspension that keeps you level and offers an improved ride empty per their website. Can't find any reviews or users with experience so I called Firestone. They do not have a kit that fits the 2011.
Thanks for the kind words...I have pulled the trailer almost 4000 miles now. I am pulling it again this weekend. I may weigh it again just for fun. I have changed some of the loading and I am curious as to what changed.
My 28' travel trailer is the longest and tallest trailer I tow routinely. I also pull a 20' cargo, two 16' cargo's and an 18' low profile cargo, and a 36' fifth wheel cargo. These are all for work and in the last 5 years I have logged slightly over 250,000 miles. ... Heck, I can't back up without a trailer. I almost always turn the wheel the wrong way 'cause I'm so used to pointing the trailer where I need to go.
Well you've certainly got me beat as far as experience. I grew up towing trailers and it all started with the hay wagon behind the tractor when I was 7 or 8. Towing a load of cows who don't want to stand still to the auction down a muddy dirt road is a lot of fun as well! Here lately though, 'bout the only towing I get to do anymore is when we drag the ol' travel trailer around during the summers.
Talking of the 2011 F350s, a 4x4 short bed passed me up the Grapevine yesterday like I was standing still. I was toting a backhoe and foot glued to the floor about 45mph, this thing had a hefty tri-axle 5th wheel and went past at about 55-60 at what looked like a cruise...lot of power
btw, my guess as to going V8 rather than I6 is marketing...ford is in the husinss of selling units and your average Joe wants a V8 and is gonna have no clue that an inline 6 is a diesel's bread and butter
Nope. Just a 250. I used to tow that same trailer with a 1/2 ton Titan. It was about maxed out. Still, it pulled it for 6 years. This new 250 pulls it like its a load of styrofoam and I couldn't be happier.
Dodge is not resisting. Their chassis cabs have DEF systems. IIRC, their pick ups are getting it next year or in 2012. The advantages are many and have been discussed frequently. If you search a little you can learn a lot. Navistar is out of the HD pickup business, end of story. I do not know if Ford ever considered an inline six for their new diesel. I, personally, have not ever given it any thought. I have had both Cummins and Cat's in motor homes and a few v8's in pick ups. I liked them all but my relationship with the 6.0 I had was a trial.
Regards
Yeah, I do need to read up on SCR more so I can get a better understanding of it.

Man I bet! F250 is basically an F350 without the beefy rear springs so I can imagine the feeling having come from a lil half ton is just crazy...i really don't understand half tons to be honest, 3/4 and 1 tons are so much more capable and safe.
