i went from...
-stock with exhaust cut right behind muffler (not loud at all)
-stock with flowmaster 44 muffler, 90 degree bends exit in front of rear tire (not loud enough but a little more rumble)
-stock exhaust, cut rear cat off, no muffler. (good sound, but i wanted my pipes coming out of the side)
-i now have no rear cat, super 44 sido, exit infront of rear wheel, and i lost all the sound!?
this super 44 is supposed to be there most aggressive flowmaster muffler and it absolutely kills the roar my 5.0 had.
You will absolutely get no roar from dronemasters. They have a tincan sound to them. What you need are some 18" glasspacks mister. Magnaflow does have a better sound than dronemasters though.
Supper 44s are made for Hi performance motors with duel exhaust , not a stock truck motor , if you want it loud get rid of the cats & use a glass pack....Lew

Good job lew52. Seems like the age of the glasspack is coming back. I have a single glasspack with my cats gutted and dang. Afterall they do have better sound.
That's because you're not thinking about the exhaust system as the tuned instrument it is. Changing the length of the exhaust system and location of the chambers within it will affect the system tuning and that will either amplifier or cancel the sound output at that frequency(= engine rpm). You're going to have to experiment but simply changing the position of the muffler and length of the tailpipe will change the sound output, I got vastly different levels of sound output from my system by simply moving the muffler a few feet forward or back.

When you get input from Conanski it is always good and true. You have very good knowledge mister and are well experienced. Thanks for your help on the other topic. Rep point for you.
well will shorter pipes coming out of my muffler make it louder or quieter? the pipes are the only thing clamped and not welded, im willing to trim them if i will get more sound. my neighbor commented my truck was loud when i just pulled in, but its not loud enough for me.
