Tranny problem EBP SENSOR BAD

My 2000 f350 7.3,seems to have a tranny problem, it hard shifts between 2nd and 3rd gear. The shop told me the EBP sensor is bad. Can that be causing the problem? Just bought this truck, I have already replaced the alternator and the VSS sensor. They both were shot.

Hey there you are! Not so bad on the thread starting huh?

I don't see how that sensor could cause a tranny issue but i am no expert either. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable chimes in soon. And welcome again to FTE
Any idea how old the fluin in the trans is? Look and smell ok?

Welcome to the site! If your fluid smells burnt you probably already shortened the life of the transmission. I would go ahead and flush it. You can click on guzzle maintenance site in my signature and he has a write up on cleaning the ebp sensor. You also should consider upgrading your transmission cooler so the fluid does not get so hot.

Grant is correct on all counts. Go ahead and change that fluid. It won't cure any wear issues but it will delay any future failures. Guzzle has some great writups

Thank you both. I will follow your recommendation. Do you think the EBP sensor is causing a delay on my PCM? Could that be why my transmissions has a hard shift? Is there anything else you recommend to resolve this issue?

You may want to join your Texas chapter of FTE and see if someone near you
can scan your truck for stored codes to see if that points you in a particular direction. It is "possible" that the EBP sensor is causing a slight hiccup but I don't think that it is likely.

The first rule in fixing ANY transmission problem is to ALWAYS fix the engine problems. Fix the EBP problem and chances are the transmission will be fixed, too.

The PCM uses exhaust backpressure for torque calculations.......

Torque calculations are used for a lot of transmission functions.

Thanks to everyone for the advise, I got the EBP tube coming out of the exhaust ordered, it was old and corroded. Hopefully that will fix my problem... I will keep you all updated.

this might be a little off topic, but just curious, if the exbp sensor helps for torque calculations, what happens to all the guys, including me that did the sensor delete..im not trying to say your wrong, just really curious becuase if so i will go out and reconnect the line.

More than glad to help. I hope the sensor issue fixes the trans issue too. I Have never heard of that connection before. Curious too if it solves your issues. Please post back when you get the new tube on.

And I sure would not second guess Mark. He knows his stuff

What does ROCDRA stand for?
