Well my ol 6.0 is starting to puke bad these days. It currently has 230,000 miles.I had the headstuds and rebuilt heads put on about 110,000 miles or so with ARP studs. It's been puking slightly for the last 50,000 or so but not much maybe a gallon every 10,000 miles. Now it's going through about a gallon a day and I'm working 1,000 miles from home. I'm hoping I can limp it home. Is there anything besides Head gaskets or Egr cooler that could be the culprit. I deleted the EGR cooler when we did the headstuds so that's not it. And my functional EGR valve was left in place still plugged in. It's been running hot pulling the Mountains here in West Virginia. I only pull about 5,000 lbs so. I'd say it's directly related. Anyways If anyone has any input I would be thankful...
As Brickie said and you can add a possible sticking t-stat, cheap and easy to replace, and also a plugged oil cooler. Deleting the egr cooler, in my op, eliminates one of the symptoms of a plugged oil cooler. The oil cooler is the root cause. Another cheap attempt at a fix is an updated degas cap. About 7 bucks.

While it may not be it, I wouldn't rule out head issues again just on the mere fact of having ARPs. It just depends on the installation and how well(or badly) it was installed.
I've had to have mind done twice, because of bad installation. Now it quickly popped up again, but that could also be because I was running significantly more HP then even tuned. Depending on what HP output you have and how you drive it, it could very well have taken that long for it to show up again.
Like I said, I'm not saying that it's the heads(I'm reluctant to call it headgasket issues period because they are not an issue at all) again, but don't quickly dismiss it just on the fact of having ARPs in the truck.
Thanks guys. I'm reluctant to think that its the water pump just because it cools down when I let off the throttle. And at idle. I've changed the thermostat twice...that last time being about a month ago. I'm afraid it is head issues Tex I had them installed by a local shop who had never done them before on a 6.0 The heads were rebuilt I assume they were decked when they did that. I just detuned the truck we'll see if the difference in cylinder pressure effects the amount it pukes. I usually run the ASE tune as a DD and my towing weight is usually about 5000. 1500 of that is in the bed of the truck so I'm not beating on it too bad but you never know. Most of my driving in West Virgina is climbing steep grades so It might have pushed it over the edge.
