What a day

Well, I am sure I am not the first to deal with these problems, but its a first for me. I guess I am going to chalk it up to the joys of owning a truck that's older than me.

Let me paint the picture for you. I am not a mechanic and this is my first project vehicle with many first time fixes for me. A week or so ago I replaced my radiator that had small leak in it and went ahead and changed the thermostat and thought my cooling system problems were solved . Well seems that started a trend on my truck of cooling system parts failure. Over the next week my water pump started leaking, so this weekends project was to replace the water pump, and then my problems were to be solved . So after the chore of replacing the water pump and getting her put back together and running, I notice another coolant leak. Seems now the heater core is leaking. Guess I needed to work on something else with the cooling system this week . After reading a thread earlier in the week about how much fun a a heater core is to change with a/c, I can't wait.

Good news is, how many parts could really be left in the cooling system, I am heading to all new parts. Oh well, what a frustrating day.

Stick with it, chase 'em down until there's nothing left to chase. Waiting on my next bout...

About the only thing left to leak are the core (freeze) plugs. If you get really ambitious and want to replace them, use the brass replacements. They're only slightly more expensive and you won't have to worry about replacing them again.

Don't forget new hoses, and clamps when you do the heater core, then ALL will be new and your coolant worries will be over for a while anyhow.

This happens to all of us with these old trucks, I just think of it as replacing all the old worn out stuff, and with all the new parts, it will last a long time, and with every new repair, I am just taking it to the next level of perfection!
