I have a 1998 Ford Ranger 4x4, 5 speed manual V6. Both the 4x4 high and low light flashes six times every two minutes. I've had the codes pulled and I get a "P1832 - Transmission transfer case 2 wheeldrive solenoid circuit failure" and a "P1878 = Transmision/Transfer case disengaged solenoid circuit failure". I looked at articles posted on this site about the 4x4 shifter motor going bad alot. So I figured I'd take the motor off and look at it.
Disconnecting the wire harness from the shift motor isn't an issue but I don't know what to do with that "one brown wire" that goes straight into the bottom left side of the transfer case tail shaft. Does it come out of the transfer case?
Do you think it's the shifter motor or is it something electric like solenoid problems? I'm not good at identifing electric problems. Help please
