So I finally got around to doing a compression test to my 92 f150 5.0 and results came back varied......( I dont know if I'm right in the numbering of cylinders, I started passenger side closest to the bumper as 1 and came back same side and 5 as driver side closest to bumper and back)
1. 120 psi
2. 150
3. 135
4 135 white insulation on sparkplug was cracked....salesman said it xploded from inside.
5 150
6 150
7 150
8 145
#4 was culprit of the skipping of 'beat'. I also double check the sparkplug gaps and found out all were under by .008 inches lol...
After all is said and done I think my next project is to tackle passenger side of valves .......any input is appreciated
Yes you numbered the cylinders right... Your compression is still good although #1 could be better but it's still there. Yes cracked sparkplugs cause no current to pass therefore no combustion in that cylinder. Let me guess was that sparkplug kind of black at the electrode? I recently had a case like this but the pick-up coil was the culprit.
now i've never attempted anything as serious as valves before.....as far as tricks or tips, is there anything i should Not do when take everything off or putting it back on? and what should i look for?
Well I have never attempted to do anything like that either... wouldn't know what to tell you. But why are you opening your engine up? Do you hear a slight knocking sound inside your engine?
yea since i've changed the sparkplug, the hesitation has gone away but i hear slight light knockin sound inside, possible stickin of valves. My oil pressure is low also so eventually i'm gonna have to change rod and main bearings along with pickup tube and oil pump...
That's good and I have the same problem as you. Mine does it while the engine is cold then as it warms up it goes away. Is this how yours acts? My oil pressure sometimes drops too. I'm thinking of replacing the oil pump and the pickup tube. Then probably gonna rebuild my engine. Stick around and tell me how it's going. I'll be following this topic.
