hi i have a 2000 ford expy 4.6 with 133xxxx miles on it.
my ac was working fine a about 3 month ago then it was blowing warm air
today i bought a recharge kit and tried to charge it while i was charging it i noticed that the a/c compressor was turning for about 4 seconds then it turns it does the same thing over again.
i also noticed a hissing sound in the trunk after the compressor turns on and off?

The compressor cycling on and off is an indication that the system is low on refrigerant.
It's really weird that you would hear a hissing sound coming from the trunk, since these Expedition don't have trunks. I'm not trying to be overly picky, but the more accurate you can be when describing the symptoms, the more accurate our answers/suggestions can be to you.
the hissing sound is coming from the rear on the driver side behind the cover where the rear blower motor is located.
i only hear the hissing sound when the a/c compressor cycles on and off
Hissing is not uncommon as a compressor cycles on and off as long as it stops shortly after the A/C is turned off. A continuous hissing would indicate a leak. How many cans of R134a did the system take so far?
This is strange I have the same problem with my Expedition, the a/c compressor cycles on and off, hearing a hissing sound from the drivers side rear. I bought some a/c refrigerant thats called EZ Freeze from wally world that has a built in gauge dont know how accurate the gauge is because it reads that my system is full and all im getting is warm air too. I might just have to take it in.
~Gage~
i bought a can of r13,4 with a gauge on it i only put half a can in because i don't want to over charge the system. do you think i should put the whole can in?
It's a tough call if the gauge says it full, because it really could be full and there's some other problem with the system, or the gauge being so cheap could simply be wrong. If I had to choose one way or the other, I'd say put the rest of the can in, but hold the can upside down when doing so. Make sure the blower is on high, the dash **** is turned all the way to cold, that it's on Max A/C, and all of the windows are open when you do it.
i just put the rest from the can in and now the compressor stays on and the a/c is cooling and also the hissing noise isn't as bad as it was.
tomorrow i will get another can and put a little more in because the gauge shows that it is a little low.
thank you for all of your help i really appreciate it
