I am buying my stepsons 81 bronco. It has a real nice solid body it and a t-18 4speed. I plan to swap this body on to my frame and swap in the tranny. The only problem is trying to find a diesel core support for 83-86 truck. I like this body style way more than the 88 I have. Any Ideas on where to find one in good solid shape? I don't think they sell repops and everything around here is rusted away.
If your current rad support is in good shape, just cut it in half across the verticals and extend it down - that's what Mel and his son did when dropping the diesel in the Night Moose F150, it turned out pretty good and since you seem to be pretty good with the welder methinks it won't be much of a task for you.
Diesel radiator supports have been non existant for the 83 thru 86 trucks for several years now.
The only option for new is cutting up a new gasser support and modding it to work.
If you get the right width opening, you only have to drop the bottom channel about 5" to make it work.
That is what I had to do with the one in the 88 I have now. I was just hoping to find one ready made lol. The support in the 81 is rusted at the mounts so I may have to buy a new one and use my bottom section again. Thanks guys, I guess I am just getting a little lazy in my old age.
Well this swap is a little bit off. I still need to get the flywheel, bellhousing, clutch and pedal parts together. Why don't you pm me and we will talk price lol.
