Nonsense!

When you do a VIN decode what is it based on? What state the truck was bought in? No, you use Ford info and determine the model year.

To further explain the dent/bumpside part of this...bumpsides(67-72 have a built in, if you will protrusion where the bed side and upper rail portion are welded together...this carries on forward in the rear of the cab, door and fender...on trucks with actual side moldings, this is one area they mount them on.
The dentsides...73-9...basicly the opposite, albeit at the same location on all of the parts...the area is concave which, if the truck is so outfitted with moldings, is largely filled in by the moldings. The more popular/common type are the ones which have the vinyl rub strip as part of the moldings.
