So its finally time to do all 4 brake pads on my 98...
I haven't been around in the Expy game for a few years due to a Mustang addiction I've developed
That being said, here goes:
I need a low dusting pad to try and keep my 20" RIMZ(lol) clean... My choice is ceramic obviously..
Any particular brand/type that you guys/gals can recommend?
I had Akebono's at one point but they're pricey so I'm looking for cheaper alternatives... I won't be towing much either so a pad that will hold extreme heat well isn't too much of a concern.
i have been running Motorcraft SuperDuty pads on my navigator. They cost me $60. Not sure what the akebono pads run. I have chrome wheels so low dust was what i was after. I can drive this thing for a month and have hardly any dust. They are supposed to be a long life pad so they powder coat the backing plates so they don't rust.
I am running the Duralast golds as well. Great braking power and low dust for reasonably priced pad. I will be running these on the family fleet of four vehicles.
I'm now very seriously considering getting the Duralasts.. Also the fact that I have $20 gift card for AutoZone laying around will certainly help cover the bill...
So for a more **** question.
How much dust would you say these pads get after a few days of driving? Is it at the point that you NEED to wash your wheels, or is it just a light coating where its barely noticeable?
The Duralast Golds aren't ceramic. They are a semi-metallic.
Napa has a $75 set that are ceramic. Autozones ceramics (Duralast Gold Cmax) are $60--check online for availability...you may have to special order.
I put the NAPA ones on my rear end on my 04 expy on the 2nd of July and have put over 500 miles on them....the wheels look clean compared to my fronts but there is a very slight amount of dust on them. overall I am ecstatic at the cleanliness of them, though.
I have been using the Duralast ceramics for a few years now and they have been great in all regards. In fact for $55 and a life time warranty IMHO you cannot go wrong.
