reg cab short bed or reg cab long bed? just wondering what you guys think..
i want to get a "new" 94-96 f150 and im just thinking of which to get. i will be using the truck to haul stuff, daily city driving and some off road stuff too, nothing to hard core but still need 4x4. i would most likely do a 4-6 inch lift and some tires around 35 inches.
what do you guys think is better and could you give me some pros and cons?
im thinking a long bed wont be that big of difference or a problem compared to short because its only 16 inches and they are much easier to find. anyway what is your opinion?
I MUCH prefer a long bed over a short because:
*when you put a toolbox in a short bed, you have 4ft of bed space......what are you going to haul with that?
*short-bed trucks look funny (unless they're a flareside)
*short beds ( I could be wrong) I think only have 1 fuel tank
*hard to haul a lot of anything with only 6ft of space
I love long bed trucks, but here are the pros and cons
Pros:
*can haul more
*Put a toolbox in, you still have a lot of bed space
*Looks more proportional
*Have the dual-tank option
Cons:
*Longer wheelbase (for when you're wheeling)
............................
That's all I got..........someone else who prefers shorties might have some other views, but I like the long bed hands down

Shortbeds have the option for dual tanks. Both my 1996 F150 shortbox and my dads 1989 f150 shortbox have the dual tank option. So it is possible to have dual tank which is nice. but then again both of our trucks are extended cabs. and we are just the opposite i prefer shortboxes to longboxes. btw like your truck.
If you have plentiful choice of long boxes to pick from i would go that route espically if your going with just the standard cab. makes it easier to get a box to grab if something happens to yours. plus the extra two feet doesnt seem like much but it helps with hauling in the bed. and if you put a toolbox or something in you still got a short box to work with.

Um, if you're talking to me....thanks! But both my and the OP have reg. cab trucks....and yeah, its nice to have a box and then still have a bit of room to work with
My last five trucks were long bed, the current truck is long bed.. I have owned 2 short bed trucks, first one was before I knew any better.. The second one was a trade for money owed to me, sold it the next day....
My current truck has a contractors box that clears the floor of the bed by 1 1/2 inches.. And have full length tool box on both sides..
yeah everyone pretty much has it nailed. but id like to add that with a short bed you cant haul a sheet of plywood, and the tail gate has to be down with a short bed
forgot to say i mean like you can put plywood flat with the tailgate closed and set stuff on top of that sheet as well, i have friends with short beds they prefer them and seem to like them it does what they need. i just like the extra bit of length i think there more common as well, as 86f150 said its what you need and your preference, i love my long bed, but more so i Love my truck
If you don't need the 8ft bed for hauling , then i would go with the SB most have duel tanks , lighter , better turning radius , handle better off road IMO , if you ever drove a jeep on tight trails you know what im talking about.....Lew
It's all about what you get used to seeing, there are so many Supercab and Crewcab trucks on the road now with short boxes when you see a truck will a full 8ft box it looks abnormal. I won't argue about an 8ft box being vastly more usefull for hauling stuff though. But if you ask me it's the flairsides that look goofy with this vintage truck.. a regular cab flairside looks alright but an extended cab version is all wrong.
