Towing to RRE?

After Robins(PaysonPSD) misfortunes recently while on a road trip, I started thinking what I would do if the unthinkable happened on the way to RRE with the wife and two small youngins on the side of the road. I've never had AAA before and thankfully never needed it so I checked into it and the Premier RV Membership they will tow my truck 200 miles and the camper 100 miles. $131 a year and a $10 sign-up fee. Maybe most of you guys may already have it, but if you are like me and have never really thought much about having it, it maybe a good time to think about it, especially if you are towing a camper to RRE.

Good point Darrell. It's a no-brainer really.

I signed up last year for the same reason. I don't want to get caught 1000 miles from home with kids, dogs, cats and wife on board a broken truck with a camper in tow! You get the picture.. AAA is not perfect, but it gives me a little comfort on long trips.

Thats not bad for a little security. Just a tow for the truck for 5-10 miles can cost $100 on a rollback.

We have made good use of our AAA over the years.

My wife had AAA before we were married and then added me when we got married. We now have the Plus RV. We have used the vehicle tows in the past and it was more than worth cost of the yearly premium.

I agree, it is nice to have some security when several thousand miles from home. Have to say it is nice when only a few miles as well.

There is nothing like the peace of mind at having a tow insurane like AAA. Also, remember, some agents also write tow coverage on your collision/liability policy. Take a gander and see if it is there.

I have my insurance with USAA (and any vet on this site could also). I have tow/rental reimbursement on my car/truck/camper policy. I pay $6.00 per vehicle per 6 month premium period. That is $1 per month for the truck and $1 per month for my camper.

You can also get a quote from Good Sam camping club. That is also a good group to join.

They don't know near as much about the 7.3 PSD however.

Like last year with JD. at the drag strip I knew the guy pretty good and got a little of a discount and it was I think 65.00 back to the camp ground

Darrell brings up a good point and it got me thinking that maybe I wanted to do the same and finally get AAA, especially with the camper I haul around a lot. But I'm a USAA member and thanks for bringing that up, I need to look in to that too. I'll check on restrictions with mileage, RV tows, and such. Another plus is if it's through insurance it covers the vehicle and not just one driver. That's what sux about AAA, if I want my wife covered I have to pay extra for her.

There is a 10 day period to fully cover the RV from the day you sign up, so if you dont have it and want it, you best get it soon so you will be covered when you leave for RRE.

Thanks for the tip man. Actually a quick call to USAA and I found what I needed. It's $1/month per vehicle with "concierge" service like Bobby said, so that's $24 a year to cover the camper and the truck. Granted they won't tow me 100 miles, it's only to the nearest service center but it'll get the truck and camper off the road to a place where I could fix it if I ever have a problem. If I'm 100 miles away I wouldn't know where I'd want to be taken anyway so it's kind of moot. Thanks for posting the thread up, it got me thinking and off my **** to actually do this; and looks like others too.

National Motor Club is a better option, IMO. It's cheaper and gives much better service, IMO. I've used it and used it and they've never given me crap for how many calls. They will cancel you for "abuse" but only after repeated warnings. My Dad sells the memberships.

Edit: Ok, I just called. Looks like NMC won't tow a trailer.
