The ride in my 1995 Explorer is really rough. You can feel every bump and crack. Potholes are bone jarring. As one friend who also owns an older Explorer said, you can't drink hot coffee and drive around the city.
I just replaced the shocks...80,000 on old shocks, but no change in the ride.
It has always been a rough ride, but seems to have gotten worse these past 2 years.
I know the feeling! Test driving used Explorers in1995 – 96 I thought all rode the same. I purchased a 93 that had a towing package (more or stiffer rear leaf springs) to learn the ride could get stiff. But! You have to take the good with the bad if you work your truck vs just riding. The towing package is what I need due to the firewood I tow. To soften my ride after my firewood season, I will use 30 PSI front and back vs 30/35.
Before the Explorer I had Jeep Wagoneers (72 and 80) and I removed 1-2 leafs to lower and soften their rides and that worked (with good towing capacity). Good Luck! JOW
