which flexplate do i need??? i'm so confused!
ok, i'm trying to find the correct flexplate for my 2000 f150 4x4 with a 5.4 and a 4r70w automatic tranny. last 8 of the vin are yca22054.
i have called 3 ford dealers. 2 said i needed part number 4c3z6375aa. one said i needed 1c3z6375ba. autozone said i needed part number fra-438 which is a pioneer part that crosses to ford part number f6az-6375-da. oreiley said either pioneer fra-429 which is ford e1bz-6375-b or pioneer fra-443 which is ford f75z-6375-aa. napa gave me two numbers as well, BK 6005169 and NNC 502759 but could not tell me the difference or which i needed.
what do i truely need? i don;t want to have the tranny torn out to find i have the wrong part!

I thought I gave an answer awhile ago.
Giving the last 8 digets won't cut it for the info you need.
The motor ID is the 8th from the beginning or left side.
Again here is the codes.
If the*****8th***** diget is a '2' the motor is a V6.
If a 'W' it is a 4.6 ROMEO V8. (built is the US)
If a '6' it is a 4.6 Windsor V8. (built in Canada)
If an "L' it is a 5.4 V8.
What you need to know if the motor is a 4.6 is if a ROMEO or WINDSOR.
These two motors use a different flex plate.
Why is there a problem IDing the motor from the VIN?
What diget do you have in the 8th position from the beginning?
We cannot tell you what you have or need unless you offer the correct info diget!
Whoever provides the flexplate needs to use that number for the order.
Ask them how they are determining the plate to use.
If you don't take charge of the situation then there is a 50% chance you will not get the correct one.
Stores have been known to have the wrong info in their data bases.
Two sources ought to agree at least.
Good luck.

thanks for that info. as i had said in my original post, it is a 5.4, vincode L. all the ford dealers were asking only for the last 8 digits, not the first. they just needed to know what engine size. i've had such conflicting answers from both dealers and aftermarket stores that i had to ask here. it seems around here no one has a clear answer on the 5.4 flywheel, even the dealers.

Good thing is you only have one size motor to be concend about.
Ford has been known to make running production changes so no one ever knows for sure until it come out and apart.
I have had that pleasure with simple things like brakes.
At the end of a production year, they put the next years 'different' rear brake hardware on last years model even though all parts data bases said otherwise until I had them look at it and compaired with hardware in hand.
No more I can offer you but get it apart far enough to count the number of flywheel flange bolts for a positive ID. I know there is a difference in some builds depending on the plant the motor was built in.

so there is no way of knowing without the flywheel in-hand? that really sucks because no one in my area stocks any flywheels for a 5.4 so it would have to be ordered. i don;t want to have the repair shop pull the tranny, then have wait 2-4 days to get the flywheel after i order it before finishing the job. (yeah, long story, but have to find the flywheel unless i want the repair shop to use the $250 ford one, and i can find them for $60-80. just need the right one.)

well, idid pull the starter and the inspection cover tonight to try to id what i have for a flexplate. well, there is absolutely no way i can find to see anything to id what i have. can't see the mounting bolts, can't measure the diameter, etc. i guess i am going to order one from the local non-national chain store supplier that supplies all the repair shops in the area. the one they are getting me is a 164 tooth, 8 bolt, 14 1/4" flexplate. i sure hope that is what i need!
