What is your best solution to 5.4L cooling issues while towing?

Guys,

Been looking through the threads here and haven't come across the answer that I need yet. I have began another thread if anyone cares to read it (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...-capacity.html), but I'll be more specific here with my questions.

2002, F-250, 5.4L, Ext. cab, 4x4 off-road, 4.11's, 285/75/16 Firestone tires (265/75/16 originally), plow and tow packages.

I had overheating issues last two loads and need to address them. I am not yet convinced this is NOT a gauge or sensor issue...

- If anyone has installed aftermarket coolant temp. gauge and sensor what did you use?

- What is the single-best change you made to your truck to address cooling issues?

- What is the single-best change you made to increase your HP and/or Torque for towing?

I installed an electric fan from a V8 Continental on my DOHC Navigator not for cooling issues but because of noise and available horsepower issues also for clearance at the front of the engine, I like to look at my engine and not see all that clutter in there. Besides that I don't like having that heavy appendage hanging off the front of the water pump that uses the same bearings and seals that my Mark VIII with an electric fan uses. I think that weight will contribute to pump failure sooner than if it was not there.

Probably a partially clogged radiator not cooling enough under high heat loads.

Does the 2002 f250 5.4 have the terrible ypipe that my excursion had?

I got rid of the restrictors and towing power went up. mpg went up to.

If you still have the original radiator hoses, check them out. Over time the hoses can get very soft and can actually compress and cause inadequate water flow. I had that happen once. New hoses and all was well.
