92 F150 trouble code 222

Has anyone run across this code before. My sons truck is missing some and will eventually die at idle with the ac running. Ran the codes and this is what we got. Need any advice you can give, I dont want to throw parts at it.

Are you sure that the code is 222? The reason I ask is that our trucks have distributors. My code reader book says that 222 means this.

Distributorless Ignition System - loss of right side ignition diagnostic monitor signal IDM.

DTC 222 on distributor systems indicate a loss of the IDM signal or possibly a problem with the coil itself. I would pull the ICM off and take it in to be tested.

I am not certain what the primary resistance of the coil is supposed to be. I suppose if it were to decrease dramatically when warm it could effectively pull the IDM signal to the PCM down far enough to cause the error and stalling.

My manual also has a troubleshooting guide stating to start the vehicle then wiggle all the connectors/wires leading connecting the ICM/Coil/PCM to induce the problem. You could have a bad connection some place. I have also seen a few technical bulletins pertaining to the shield on the wires to the PCM from the ICM circuitry rubbing through the insulation which grounds out the SPOUT signal. The same could happen for the IDM circuit too.
