Oil Trouble

I inadvertantly poured 1 quart of standard 10w-40 into my 1997 F250 Powerstroke Diesel during an oil change. The other 13 quarts were Motocraft Diesel Oil. Is that going to cause a problem? Do I need to drain and refill it?

From what I understand about the diesel oil as compared to gas motor oil, is that there are additives that help lubricate and "clean" components inside the engine's moving parts. The cleaners help strip build up from the parts. I dont know what kind of gas engine motor oil you put in it, and that may have a hand in determining things, but for safety sake on my part, if I unintentionally dropped the wrong oil in, I would be looking real soon to get that oil changed. I dont think you will have any immediate issues, but I wouldnt chance it for too long. I know the oil changes in these things are expensive, but so are parts! Sorry that wasnt a better help!

I wouldn't worry about it one bit. The one quart won't have the anti-foaming additives that our diesel oil does, but that's about it. It's still probabably better than the dirty used up stuff you drained out.

I agree whole-heartedly.
If it really concerns you, change your oil 500 or 1000 miles sooner than you regularly do.

X3 on that. In an emergency you could pour more than 1 quart of standard oil. , so with only one quart, dont worry at all, as stated above it will probably better than the drained dirty oil.
