Chellie, the cap is the overflow reservoir cap, there is no radiator cap. So that is the cap to replace?
yes the cap that has the spring in it that holds the pressure, thats the cap to have checked and replaced, if your going to have the system pressure tested, they can pressure test the cap too.
Thanks again for everybody's help on here. Just like the 6.0 folks, your support was right there from the get go, much appreciated. The RV guys pressure tested the system and fortunately it was just a bad heater hose clamp, replaced it and back in business. So off to the mountains with #1 son for some cooler weather fishing...have a good one.
I know this is an old post but I myself am looking at coolant loss issues which I think I have got sussed and came across this conversation....the engine mgmt. light came on and the coolant had dropped. plugged it in and code said right bank running weak (report from oxy sensor) but checked rt bank oxy sensor and its not ranging/working at all and there is coolant wetness around slip joint of the cat. Oxy sensor has been poisoned by coolant on the right bank , its pumping/ burning coolant on rt bank, runs beautifully with no misfire so mustn't be bad enough loss to hydraulic and blow out a plug (yet) I'm likely looking at a head gasket replacement on that side....if youre running straight water as coolant it may not harm your oxy sensor or put up a code?but if it is running a good 50/50 mix it wont take long to kill an oxy sensor if it is being sucked into combustion chamber. mine is a Canadian '99 Excursion with only 2 oxy sensors (OBD1 H/D ).
Re:- mws F250
That is EXACTLY what mine does.
There isnt any pressure in the header when I remove the cap carefully with a hot engine. Going to get a new one anyway.
There is a cheap combustion gas tester to bung in the header filler neck and test for combustion gases , that's worth a shot and it can be used on any motor anytime. Ive seen how thin and long the head bolts are and Ive got to say, they don't look substantial at all, so who knows , maybe it is the bolts easing under the pressure of your right boot , just enough to squeeze and suck a little coolant into the cylinder(s) past the head gasket....I'm too chickens##t to pull the plugs to see if theres any physical evidence of which cylinder(s) are leaking on mine, just in case I strip the threads on those ...I think I'm going to have to get all the spares together first before I attempt this, ...just in case...Your problem sounds too much like mine..except my oxy sensor...its only weeks old tho..? can they be heated up red hot to 'clean' them? or once failed/poisoned is that it?
