I have a 360. Gathering up parts to make it a 390. I placed a add looking for a 390 crank. I have no clue what the going prices are on used parts. So i will place his reply on here. I hate when people say make me a offer. His reply....
I've got a block pistons rods and a crank in very good shape pulled
cause we found a crack in the lifter valley still all together minus
the heads sitting under a bench in my shop just make a offer and I
might take it I don't want to pull it apart but the block is trash it
was the best running 390 I've ever seen it just had water in the oil
What would be a good figure to shoot at him?? Also the issue he had.. could there be anything wrong that I may need to look for?
Thanks
Marty
Trouble with one of these deals is that if he didn't flush all the watered oil out of the engine, it is probably JUNK. So unless he can prove he flushed it, pass. And don't ask him if he flushed the engine, ask him what the step by step procedure was from the engine being shut off in the truck until it hit the shelf under the bench.
FYI, IMHO you would be better off buying a crank, rod and piston kit from the parts store. At least you will know that it is good.
It depends also on what type of pistons he has. Cast, forged, hyper then the type, dish, flat top etc... and also what size they are. And if you can match them to your good block overbore wise. Used cast pistons go $50-100 depending on the brand and style. Forged used $100-200 and up again depending on the brand. Used stock rods go for $75+ and a used cast 390 crank $50-150 depending on cut and condition. He really needs to put a price on them and go from there. Place a WTB ad on FE.com in the classifieds. Lots of stuff there and might find someone close by. 332-428 Ford FE Engine Forum
