I really don't mean to pick on the "kids" at the parts stores. I've seen some older folks that worked there that were pretty useless too. There just seem to be more and more young ones out there every year.

But as long as some of those parts guys and gals continue to ask some of those questions, I guess we'll continue to make fun of them. (no offense Dan). My favorite has to be a few months ago when I had to go in and buy a new slave cylinder for my clutch. As he entered my truck info, he asked, automatic or manual.

Most kids at the parts stores can't look up parts without a year, make and model. That drives me crazy. When I last visited my friendly parts store for an AC clutch, they asked me stupid questions like 2wd or 4wd. I said, doesn't matter. I've got the 7.3 diesel and need an AC clutch. They just asked again because the computer was asking them and they were powerless without the aid of the computer.

Anyway, ask for the Felpro 8194. When they ask for what vehicle, just say "I don't know. They just told me to get the Felpro 8194." and they'll find it for you, or find an equivalent from a different brand.

Don't forget new o-rings for the turbo to pedestal. The donuts should cost less than $10 for the set. The o-rings about the same. Just add labor, a few cuss words, and some cold beverages and you're set.
so other than price what the advantage of using these rather than the brass ones from beans?

Its probably a long shot but check eBay every so often. Thats what I did and found a brand new set of Bellowed Up-Pipes for just under $300. As far as the installation I did it by myself. It wasn't really that hard to do. If you remove the wheelwells it makes it much easier.

I really can't say for sure. I know several of the OBS guys like Brass donuts, but bellowed up pipes are not available for them. Brass obviously won't deteriorate like a typical donut can, but it does have a different expansion contraction rate than the steel up pipes do, which means you still have some potential for leaks. If brass donuts where the answer, then Navistar would have switched to them instead of the bellowed pipe design they have used on the 6.0 and 6.4.

Brass is cheaper than bellowed, and may be a better option of no bellowed pipes exist, but in my way of thinking, either get the permanent bellowed up pipes, or go with the cheap ones. Otherwise you'll just spend more money and still have to deal with leak issues at some point.

No offense taken here :P Its just a reminder that not all of us are i-dots I have worked with a few in my time. As far as the bellowed pipes go.... Do what you gotta do to get you by. I myself will make note of this gasket number and use those for my fix for now. Dont really have the funds to get the really great ones at this time.

I have asked the same question about the clutch master cyl. But that was just jokin around. Sometimes in the middle of my questioning I'll even ask what color the vehical is and if it has four or two tires. It just depends on the mood of the customer and whats goin on. 99% of the time when they walk out they are smiling which means I did a good job with listenin to my customer and got them the right part in there moment of need.

Oh yeah, that gasket from O'Reilly Auto Parts costs $4.89 each. And will price match if it is the same gasket from somewhere else for cheaper.

if you use chevy donuts make sure there the cheap soft kind..they will fit into the flange and seal the pipe a lot better...you should be able to stick your fingernail into it...when you put them in cover the donuts with anti seize so there nice and slippery and squeeze even better for a nice tight seal...
