Electric Fuel Pump

I drug home a 1966 6 cylinder truck a week or so ago. It's a very straight truck with no rust. The main reason I brought it home was to use the bed on another truck.

Last night I got a wild hair and changed the plugs, points, added fresh gas, ghanged oil etc. It fired right up and after a couple minutes the carb stopped leaking gas. Amazing.

So here is my question.... Someone added an electric fuel pump. The truck works fine with the electric pump but I want to go back to original as I may just keep it around. I have a new fuel pump and was going to install it this morning and then got to thinking... Is there a reason that the electric fuel pump was added (other than the other quit working and was not available at a parts store)??

Any thoughts anyone??

I could also use a oil bath air filter for it if someone has one sitting around.

There are a multitude of reasons they ran the electric pump. It could be your exact thought or maybe they like electric pumps. Double check the fuel pump cam is installed before you get too far down the road with the swap back. It might not be there.

im running electric just cause i went to shucks when my stock mechanical pump started going out... got one payed 50 bucks for a new mechanical pump brought it home went to install and the arms where different... went back to shucks, and tried to explain to the guy that the part i was holding was the wrong one for my truck and he sat there and tried to tell me i was wrong... long story short, it turned into me going off about how much i hate shucks and hate that they hire people that done know a damn about cars, telling him i want a full refund of my money(all i wanted in the first place was a exchange for the right one) and driving to downtown snohomish to the napa they didnt have the fuel pump in stock and i wanted to enjoy my truck, so i bought the electronic fuel pump and all the stuff for hooking it up.. it came out to less then 20 bucks and my truck runs good... (my dad ended up buying me a chrome fuel pump block off for the hole in the side of my block...) and this is what happens every time i shop at shucks... auto zone or napa are the only places i shop now, simply cause my boss works part time at napa and i know he knows a lot about cars, and auto zone, cause thats where we shop for customers parts...
