I bought this truck in pieces and gathered up lots of other pieces to put it back together.
The guy I bought my radiator from told me that it was correct... and for the most part it appears to be. Problem one is that the fan shroud that I was sold doesnt line up to the holes in the rad as it should if it was infact a v8 shroud!
The horseshoe that came with the truck was the original one as it had the same coates of house paint on it!
Here are some pics... let me know what you think
The rad seems kinda high? yes?
this pic shows how low the shroud is compared to the holes it should be lined up with.
To me the radiator looks correct, I have several of these trucks 53-56
and radiators interchange. I run 391FTs in these trucks and I had to
lower the fan shroud just like youre photo, because with the original 1956
engine it has a high mount fan. FE and FT engines with a high mount
fan is getting almost impossible to find.
I looked at three other 56's last night at one of the local car cruise's and came up bust. All three trucks were running modern drive trains. Two had stock looking rads, and one had an modern rad...
I Have one picture of a 1956 272 with the rad much lower in the horeshoe
I think im gonna drill some new holes in the rad and move it down an inch or two as seen in the pic. Which will in turn move the shroud one or two inches up on the rad.
It also looks to me like the radiator is mounted too high. I'll have to look at my 54, but I believe the radiator seam on the tank is below the top of the deflector.
What side is your inlet/outlet hole at the bottom. A 6 cyl rad is on the hole is on the pass side. An 8 cyl rad is on the drivers side. I just looked at my '54. My rad is sitting as high as the one in the picture. I do have the rubber airdeflector strip at that point though. I often thought my rad sat too high but could never confirm. It doesn't over heat.
At a local cars how on Sunday. Only 2 53-56 trucks. A nice 53 F-100 and an OK 56 F-250. The 53 was a flathead of course but its radiator sat lower than yours or mine. Maybe the flat head makes it different.
I didn;t enter but if I did I would have taken 2nd place!!! Only 1 truck in my category: 2 wheel drive stock pickups up to 2010. They don't let you in Antique truck class unless you have antique plates....
I have a 51 so I don't know if this is relevant but your radiator appears to be too high. The bottom of mine is below the front valance/deflector. Only the cooling fins are above it.

You must have a different water pump on maybe...
My rad is the v8 rad as the lower hose is on the drivers side. I found a 54 f100 in the local pick a parts with the fan/shroud/rad still installed. The rad in this truck was sitting in the same EXACT position as mine. The difference was that the engine had a much higher water pump with what looked like a serpintine belt running the water pump off the crank. The other pulleys were standard v belts.
So, Im gonna drill some new holes as low as I can go. Reposition the fan as low as I can get it. And find some hoses that will work!
Well I finially got my Radiator situation sorted thanks to james G. phillips and his dropped fan shroud!
I ened up dropping the rad as low as it would go and drilling some new holes in the radiator. Dropped in the new/used lowered style radiator shroud and everything lined up pretty well. I ordered a set of hoses from Rock Auto and was only able to use the lower hose which was PERFECT, but the upper hose was WAY too SHORT. They list a 14" hose for the upper hose when you really need like 18-20" of hose. I will grab a flexable hose from the local parts store as sending back the incorrect hose will likely cost more than the hose did!
I Didnt take any pictures of the new lowered rad yet but I will do so this weekend weather permiting!
Not to hijack the thread, and maybe I should search again for this. Can I use the 52 V-8 flathead radiator to cool the 302 I am installing? I realize it won't work with a hi-pressure cap, but was hoping a 7 lb cap would cool the 302. Thanks in advance for your answers.

The upper hose has a pipe elbow in it like the pic of that other truck you showed. You should go back to the guy that has it ans ask him to sell it....
