I'm going to look at a 91 f250 4x4. Its a plow truck, comes with a plow. Doesn't appear to have much body rust at all except near the front wheel wells. Bed looks like it was replaced at some point. Need new exhaust and brake pads. Guy is asking $1500. I'm thinking like 1200 MAX.
I'd start off by offering $1000- he'll probably just laugh at you but starting low gives you guys plenty of slack to negotiate. This way if you get up to the $1200 mark or a little bit past it, he'll feel more like he's getting a better deal than you are.
900 to start, brake work could mean new lines or just pads, plus interiors really rough and ill bet you'll need a clutch from all the plowing work he did.
id start low i paid 1300 for mine and its 2wd, no rust, and H.O motor, along with a nearly perfect interior. for body, driveline thats under it and all 800 then maybe 900 cause of 4x4 and then star negioniating. i just put a little over 200 in my FRONT breaks that dont include the rear, i aint even opend them up yet, im scared to after seeing the fronts, but make sure you check the floor pans they could be hiding a surprise for you, and my whole clutch system was bad and i had to shell out about 550 to have it reworked... do what you want thats just me
I'm familiar with floor pan rust. My 83 i got from my dad has nice foot heal rust. Rust by the door and rear cab support rust on the drivers side. Bed is rusted to hell too. Gotta love these rusted old fords. Good tips about the breaks and the clutch. Thanks guys.

just tryin to help a fellow ford man, oh and check the rotors for any deep groves in them, thats one reasonwhy mine were so expensive, i had to get new rotors
not a bad looking truck i wouldnt pay more then 1000 for it myself thats alot of work its needing.hows the inside of the bed?if it has a bed liner pull it out it could have holes back there from rot.
I'm going to check it out today so i'll keep you guys updated on what i find. I'll bring a camera along. I agree with the $1000 max. Even Kelly Blue Book suggests a price right around there.
The plow is 1500 alone. I think it is worth what he is asking. You can do all the brakes(calipers, rotors, pads, hoses, lines, shoes and hardware kit) for under 300 if you price shop. but there was paint work done. Ford never put maroon interior with a blue exterior
Good tips. Okay so i checked it out today. Engine runs great. Has a dent on the rear passenger side bed. Exhaust is completely gone. Rust under the door the lower door frame is completely gone. Rear cap support is completely solid. Interior is pretty good off. The passenger rear side spring hanger is almost dead. Frame looks a bit rusty. My dad says its just surface rust that needs to be scrapped off. No pictures of the rusting hangar as my friend took these pictures.
i think i may be weary of that... the frame looks ify idk i might would leave it but thats me... it could just be the pictures makein it look worse than it is idk if you get it i wouldnt pay too much that thing looks like its seem some hard earned miles
im with Diesel_Brad on this one.
its a 4x4 with an engine that starts right up with a fully working plow.
for 1500 its priced good.
its important you know what this truck is,and the owner has told you
"yard truck".
price= good.
condition for such= good.
if you plan on replacing spring hangers and brakes, and whatever else is needed to be worth driving on the street.then this truck would be a huge $$$$ PIT!!!
stay away.
if you need a 4x4 plow truck for your drive....great buy! imho,if the owner comes down in price,he's better off keeping it himself and run her to plow his yard as its rusts away.
if your looking for a fixer-upper road worthy truck.......this isnt it (not even @ $500 purchase price.) keep looking.
did the owner let you take it out on a test drive? use the plow? I got my '92 f150 5.0 in a little better shape than yours earlier this year and have been putting in misc. parts every week since. p/s pressure hose today, alternator last week, starter a month ago. Only time will tell if its worth it.
is this gonna be an everyday driver or just plow truck?
