I am looking for some imput on what to use to protect the padded dashes on my trucks. my 66 4 WD is in perfect condition and would like to keep it that way, the only thing i have ever used is armoral which in my opinion leaves a lot to be desired. and these old trucks going on 45 years old the vynil is getting a little hard. jsut curious if there is something out there that is a better product for these old trucks. thanks Dutch
I agree with Bill...I read the fine print as to the installation of them...they call for gluing stuff onto the OE dashpad...like thats gonna happen...Theres ways though to cover the sun beaten area...defroster grilles and end cap pieces...I wouldnt mess with the trim front and rear...maybe roll a bead for the rear and put something heavy in there to keep it in place...not too heavy as an oddball shaped thing can permanently deform the original pad.
My pad is soooooooooo shrunken, the portion at the rear in the cluster area pulled back from the rear molding and is all shriveled up...and of course cracked...But the 'hooded' area all the way across though above the front moldings though looks as good as day one...

What in the world are you talkin' about?
Did'ja happen to read what I said the two types of materials offered for a dash cover were? CARPET or VELOUR.
I've had dash covers on EVERY vehicle I've owned since 1983, and not one of them had an instruction sheet that said to glue the puppy to the dash.
That's insane! It defeats the whole purpose of installing one. These dash covers usually run about $35/50.00.
These dash covers come with a strip of velcro. You cut it down to small individual pieces, stick one to pad, the other to the dash cover in several locations.
The velcro can be peeled right off without harming diddly-squat.

What you are describing is something totally different.
A hard plastic molded cover can be purchased for specific vehicles to cover up the sins of what remains of the padded dash. This puppy is glued to the padded dash, because what remains of it ... is his-tor-y!
These molded plastic covers usually run about $100/125.00.
I installed one a these on my '68 XL, because the alternative was to have justdashes restore the existing mangy padded dash...for 800 DOLLARS!
