The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes....Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Thomas Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774-1776
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks. Thomas Jefferson to Peter Carr, 1785
The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed. Thomas Jefferson
And for another point of view -
You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism. Erma Bombeck<!--TSCA-->
Perhaps needless to say, I prefer the writings of Thomas Jefferson.
Lets all have a safe, sane, and reverent 4th of July, which we should always remember, is Independence Day.
"And for the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor."
The 56 guys who signed that piece of paper were really going out on a limb.
I think there was some kind of revolution over here last night. I know it wasn't fireworks, because they are illegal in this city. So all I can think of is some kind of war happened.
LOL we best you can do is close the windows and water the house a few times during the night. I did that before I left and then again when I got home last night. Well at least it wasn't as bad as previous years.
