a wastegate ?

Hey everyone. I have a wicked wheel and a ATS housing. I would like to know if it would be ok to keep the waste gate locked close?

Thanks for any info.

How much boost are you seeing now? You can screw down the leaver to get more boost, but if you don't have a OBA you might start to defuel at around 23#. Remember, the stock turbo don't like to run over 25# boost.

Hey Eric, did you find your boost leak? I don't believe I would wire the wastegate with the chip on there, that's just me. Good luck, CJ. BTW it was nice to meet ya'll Sat.

I think it's a small regulator you put in the MAP line. Set the reg to blow off at 22-24 psi, I've seen guys get em' from Home Depot or Lowes & put in the line going to the MAP senser. If your not getting above 24-25 on the boost you shouldn't need anything.

Thanks.....Well I heard that a van turbo does not have a waste gate. Is that the only difference between my turbo and a van one?

No -- a van turbo has a MUCH larger exhaust housing and its wheel is slightly larger in different trim. That's why it gets away with no wastegate....

I see you have a DP-tuner, and you say 20-21 is your max boost? Maybe you have an exhaust leak or something. I only have the superchip and I see 24 ish with my WW. I have my WG unpluged but I make sure I don't go over 25 PSI. With the superchip thats not easy...

You should be able to make more than 25 psi with a tightened wastegate. The turbo life will be shortened if you constantly hammer it with over 25 psi. As long as you do this occasionally, you won't have any problems unless it is already on its way out. My stock turbo was in great shape after years of running with a tightened WG and red line removed. I added the ATS compr housing to remove surge and then the 1.0 WG turbine housing. I loved that combo and the turbo was still in great shape when I sold it with about 8 yrs and ~140k miles on it.

I don't mean to hijack, but I can get on mine pretty good with the dp in 80e, and barely get 15 on the boost gauge. I can't find any leaks and there is just a hint of soot on the up pipes, and I do mean just a hint. Should I adjust the wategate to see if I can achieve more boost? I don't feel like the truck runs bad or has any other problems. I haven't checked the turbo wheel for a while, but I don't think that it is the problem. Maybe I just can't achieve the 20 plus range on boost.

I would say check it...I installed a wicked wheel and a ats turbo housing And found that the leak was at the waste gate. Now I'm 21 to 23 boost.
