I've installed the EGR delete and replaced the intake manifold. I just saw a thread on removing the EGR (butterfly) valve from the EGR manifold and since my truck is a 2004 I did that. I am having a little trouble getting the EGR valve (round black) out of the intake manifold. I removed the 2 8mm bolts and it twists back and forth but does not want to come up. I have a block off plate with my kit but is it necessary to remove the valve now that the butterfly is gone. If so do I just need to stick a flat head under it and pry, or am I missing something. Thanks again, Kelly
Twist the valve enough so the bolt hole tabs are clear of the manifold, loop a wire over the valve through both bolt holes, and use a long pry bar to pry upward on the wire loop. It will pop right out.
Got it, Thanks for the quick reply. I've still got alot to learn on how to use this forum correctly and as soon as I get this truck running right I promise to spend some time with it so I can find this stuff myself without bothering you guys. Thanks
It's out, it didn't like the idea at all though. Pryed so hard that when it let go I slit my thumb nail right down the middle. On my right hand of course. As if this wasn't hard enough for a newbe I have to do the rest left handed. Billet block off plate installed. Moving on.

OUCH! Try a longer bar next time so you don't have to lift hard enough to split another finger nail.

So, we'll have to call you "lefty" now?
I keep a piece of heavy stock wire just for the egr valve. And a long piece of re-bar.
Lefty here. That will never happen again, yes I'm well on my way. Oil/fuel filter housing in and turbo bracket. Just got home from being gone 2 days at work and have the next 4 days off. I can't wait till tomarrow morning, I get to put in a whole day and may finish. Totally flushed the coolant system again and will install coolant filter last. I wonder if my oil temperature gauge will be in a different position with coolant actually flowing through the oil cooler. I hear it won't.
