Are all MeconV fluids synthetic or synthetic blend?I bought 15 quarts of AAMCO synthetic blend MerconV for my tranny flush. The bottle says syn.blend on the label.Ive seen other MerconV fluids but nothing saying synthetic or synthetic blend on there bottles.Any ideas?
I just changed the fluid in my tranny using Castrol Mercon V which is also a synthetic blend. Castrol advertises this ATF fluid as follows:
"Castrol MERCON V is the latest Ford specification; a part synthetic ATF formulated to meet more demanding requirements, providing exceptional low temperature performance and flow characteristics and outstanding resistance to oxidation, sludge and varnish deposits. It is for use in certain 1997 and later model vehicles, and is expected to become standard in all Ford vehicles."
You might try a search of "Mercon V" in this forum; there are some other threads relevant to your question.
Mercon V is a more stringent specification for high temperature and other parameters, and therefore is easier to meet if a synthetic blend is used. I don't think there is anything in the spec that requires it to be a synthetic blend however so it would be on a case by case basis.
