I am about to tear at this ball joint job. with my 95 4X4 ,what to do with cv axle? Does that come out easy? will i need to get special clamps for reinstalling the boots onto axle?
The top ball joints are easy, if this is the first time doing the top then the whole upper control arm will be in need of replacing which if you look how it bolts to the frame then its as simple as unbolting and bolting back up but a pickle fork can be of help to seperate the spindle from the control arm because they sometimes get stuck but also make sure the small bolt is out of the spindle before using the fork. The bottom ones, you will want to try using a jack and a socket. Make sure the ball joint is ready for removal first! Then place the socket on the jack and start jacking up under the ball joint and once you have some pressure on it start hammering around on the lower control arm so that the ball joint pushes up through the arm. No need to remove the axles! Work around them. It's been awhile since I've done them so sorry I didn't explain in exact detail, but I did this myself without knowing wtf I was doing the first time I did them since I wasn't use to IFS trucks.
