Turn Signal Switch/Cam/Lever Anatomy Question
1988 F150 xlt lariat, 5.0 V8 with tilt steering: My turn signal was recently broken when somone borrowed my truck, the lever just dangled and wouldn't click one way or the other. I opened up the column and the cam had pushed off, put it back on, and it worked again for a couple days before the same thing happening. So this time I put a new cam on and looked around the whole switch for any signs of damage, none. Put it all back together and it clicks here and there but still the cam is pushing off the more you use it. I tried putting a small screw in there but unfortunately it decided to break off on me. So I was going to replace the whole switch but I just want to make sure there aren't any other parts that might be broken or missing since I've never worked on this part before and there aren't many illustrations in my manuals. The signal lever looks like it just connects to the switch with the little plastic tab that pushes into to it up into the cam. I see no other way this connects to the steering column so if its not in the switch it just hangs there loosely and comes right out of the column if you move the switch out of the way - is that correct? And there was nothing holding the cam on to the switch - is there supposed to be? And if so I now broke a screw off into that little hole so should I need to fasten it I kind of screwed that up. I found similar posts that all said just put a new switch in but I thought I'd seek guidance before I go tearing into the rest of the column to put a new switch in. Thanks!
