Sorry if it was done 2 years ago then that was done correctly under the old tsb prior to them having us put in oil coolers.
That may have done correctly what was laid out for them to do, that doesn't mean that the oil cooler should not have also been replaced as well though to solve the problem.
This could be another one of those scenerios where the tech didn't have the full knowledge to do the job fully(I mean fully as in replacing the oil cooler as well, not fully as in what was laid out for them to do). I'm not damning the techs for that, that would be oversight on Ford or whomever handles what goes into TSBs for not knowing the relationship between the two coolers.

If the op calls ford customer service he may have a case for some help.
cheezit,
Yes it was done Sept. 08. Had 41,816 miles on the truck. They put in the second EGR valve at that time and the first EGR cooler.
So do you think I would get anywhere if I called Ford customer service? I have 58,034 miles on my truck now. It is an 2005 and I got it in 11/04 so it is out of warranty. What would they do at this point for me?

I agree with you completely as the tech was doing what he was told to do and no more. By that date these motors have been around some years and this problem was talked about on this site allot. Was the idea to patch them until they get out of warranty? I have had great service at the dealership. When these issues come up to Ford and the dealers I think they chould have known there was a cause for the EGR coolers to fail and solve that also.

I don't know. It certainly is possible that they could have been doing that. Some might have been doing that, some might have been just doing what they were told and nothing more. If you have had otherwise great service from them, I would give them the benefit of the doubt until you have something that leads you to think otherwise.

Well, it just depends. Hindsight we can just about pick anything apart and say "shoulda, coulda, whoulda".
You are right playing arm chair quarterback does no good. Well beings it is out of warranty I guess I will find a mechanic here in Portland and see what they say.
My mechanic (we have 13 Interantional Dump trucks and Semi's as well as loaders that my guys keep on the road everyday) says he will do it as it looks like it is just monkey wrenching but has never torn into a 6.0 just the bigger engines. The problem is they are behind right now and it is my busy season. If it was winter we wouldn have tons of time.
What would it hert to call ford customer service. tell them you feel that the cooler failed agin because they at the time had not figured out oil coolers should be replaced and the system not being flushed with vc9 as there current tsb states is the correct fix. the worst they can say is no.
Just an fyi we were replacing oil coolers as much as possible durring that tsb. Ford started to charge the dealers back for over repair and unneccary parts replacement. Now they require what they were charging us back. go figure.

I had the exact same thing done two years ago. They only replaced the egr cooler. In April of this year starting getting 18 degree temp spreads eot vs ect. Called Ford customer service and had the dealership call them too. I also tried to get the "faulty" 2005 trailer brake controller replaced. Ford refused to play along. I ended up rebuilding the oil cooler and deleting the egr cooler on my dime. I kept the egr cooler in case I ever want to put it back on for some reason. I have learned to live with the brake controller.
Ford said they tested my oil cooler back in 2008 and it was fine. Only the egr cooler was bad. I didnt have the Insight back then to monitor the temp spread.

They said that they did. They can say a lot of things, just don't know if they truly did it or not. Or, depending on what they did to test it as well. A lot of variables with this stuff. It'll drive you nuts.

Cheezit I would like to ask a quetion to you. I am going to get an EGR delete kit and put it on as I am tired of this cooler business. Should I change out the oil cooler while I am doing this? I have 58.038 on my truck and have changed the oil 15 times and have put 5 fuel filters in it so I do stay ahead of the maintanence curve. Thanks in advance for your help
[quote=cheezit;9079653]I would rebuild the oil cooler. Its not a bad job if you can get an egr cooler off then the rest is down hill.[/quotee
Rebuild it. I cna do that. Do I take it to someone? Do I buy a kit? I am all for doing it but I have not read much on doing that. My shop is going ot fit it in as I toild them a few things can be put off a week or so. I think I am also going to have them pull the injectors as you have to pull the wiring harness. I have have had Ford replace 3 injectors while under warranty. I figure the guys that do my big truck injectors can do these. Should I have them rebuilt to stock or have anything done to them or can you do anything while just rebuilding them with out doing something to the fuel system. Anything else that you think should be done while it is this torn apart? My kit has a new up pipe so that will be changed.
