Can anyone tell me where to find the fuel pump relay on a 87' Econoline 150 Esquire conversion van with a 460 EFI? Darn thing will start on ether & I can't hear the fuel pump running so I need to check the relay I'm told. Once I find it, what am I looking for? I found the reset button on the pass side kick panel and it wasn't triped. The owners are giving it to in exchange for some construction work and said it ran fine the last time it was started last month and can't understand why it won't run now. Like I said, starts right up on ether. A little help please! Thanks!
I belive you'll find it under the hood within the power distribution box. There are probably a couple of relays in there and I think you'll need a manual to determine which one it is. You could just go to the parts store and buy (should only be a couple of bucks) one and match it up and replace. Course your problem could also be the fuel pump itself...
OK gang, here's what I have done so far. I went to the Ford dealership here in Myrtle Beach to see if they could help me and of course they couldn't. Next we went to Barnes & Noble to see about a manual. Nothing. Next we went to Auto Zone where they did have a huge selection of repair manuals. Unfortunately, all they had to say about a fuel relay was that there are many locations for them. No picture, no discription of what to look for, nothing! I checked out the Chiltons repair manuals on-line but again nothing. I'm almost to the point of telling these people to just pay me for the work I did for them and they can keep the van even though I really could use it. I'm hoping someone can come up with something soon. Thanks!
Do the Vans have an eec test connection like the f 150 trucks, if so jumper it and do the fuel pump test if it works at all you will hear it clicking . did some trouble shooting on my truck a while back it was easly heard.
Does your van have an EEC test connection ?
folllow the proceedure for testing the fuel pumps.
if the relay is working at all it will make a clicking noise plan as day. did some touble shooting on my truck a while back could Here it easy.
Not sure if it has an EEC test connection. Call me retarded but I don't know what that is. Got left behind when the computers took over. Can I run a hot wire from the battery to the fuel pump to see if the pump is OK?
Yes, you can hotwire the pump, but make sure you're on the right wire, or you'll burn up the level sender and you could even set fire to the gas. The link I posted before should have a wiring diagram for the pump(s).
From one Steve to another....thanks Steve! I was lucky enough to find out that my next door neighbor is a mechanic and is willing to go over and help me find this problem. Lucky me!
Thanks again and I'm sure I'm going to need help down the road....I appreciate it!
