Ride height

I'm wondering why my 1953 f100 sits higher in back than front. Approx.4" I've measured the main spring length and it's 48" in length supposedly correct. It does have 9 leaves and spring clamps have a piece of metal welded in instead of the bolt through them like there wasn't room for a bolt to pass thru. Could this be a ARCH problem or to many leaves? Any suggestions? Thanks

Put three 90 pound bags of concrete in the back - that'll fix it.

Might be that your front springs are droopy and the front end is low not the back end high!

If the truck was played with at all during the 70s (as most of them were) a lot of people made adjustments to the springs or axels to acquire that "rake" on the trucks. You don't have a drop axel up front do you?

Mine has a small one on it now - about 2 to 3 inches!

No drop axles, it's all stock and front is in good shape. Rear has always seemed "rigid" in it's ride. I wondered what removing a spring leaf would do?

Pulling out one or two will drop it down some, make the ride softer, and take away from your ability to carry cargo.

I've got the opposite on my 52 Panel. The rear appears to be lower than the front. I plan on adding lifting blocks to raise up the rear a bit.

may i suggest some reverse "y" hangers...fairly inexpensive and may do the trick...honestly, I like to try to adjust my ride height by tire size..."julie,' correct me but if you have a fairly even plain...front ride to rear ride, say 7-9 inches off the ground you can get a pretty nice rake by having...75's in the rear and 60-65's in the front...that will give you a pretty nice LOOK, and ride height...of course you hav ethe engine weight to counter,,,but really, without to much work you can adjust but tire size

Yep, you can do all kinds of stuff like that. It doesn't take alot. I've found that there are lost of things those rear tire sizes affect on the trucks. I wanted 5-10 more MPH at a given RPM and was thinking about a bolt up overdrive for the C6 (about $3500) and I was ale to get what I wanted by going with bigger back tires (for $175)!

Ilya, you've alread got one less leaf on the Panels on the back! Maybe respring or put another leaf like a pick-up!

Well I think I might pull a leaf or two and see what that does. The days of carrying heavy rough cargo are long over. PANEL MAN, how many leaves do you have on yours in rear?
