Just bought a new abs headliner for my 67 F100 from LMC. Of course, it came with no instructions whatsoever. It came with a narrow foam strip about 3 feet long, with adhesive on both sides.
I just wondered if any of you had installed one of these. I guess I could throw the adhesive strip away, and drill a hoe in the center-and install it like the original one was. But I assume the adhesive strip is for something; is it used to hold the panel to the center brace, so I don't need to use the center screw?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to blow this one!
That's pretty much what I was thinking. Wish these guys would bother to print-up some instructions--of course, if they did, they'd probably be in Taiwanese, and I couldn't read them anyway!
I also bought the dye from LMC to paint the headliner black. I just painted it this morning. I'll let you know about fit and how it looks after I install it later this week.
We got the headliner installed the other evening. It was, for sure, a two person job ( a third person would have been nice to hand me tools). It went in just as well as the original did, but I did have to trim it slightly in a couple of places. The rear corners covered the trim-screw holes about an eighth of an inch. I tried to take some pics-but, just couldn't do it justic.
It looks very good; like it was done at the factory. The paint-or dye I ordered with it, looks like vinyl upholstery material with a flat finish. It must be very durable; as we man-handled it quite a bit during installation- and it wiped clean, with no marks or blemishes.
I'd recommend it as a low cost fix. Beats the crap out of paying an upholstery shop to do it!
Mine just arrived the other day. My plan is to have 'crinkle' leather applied to it and also to the firewall cover I got from dennis carpenter. The crinkle leather will be the same material as the seating area in the seat (also done in leather, but stitched to look like the original vinyl).
Anyhow, long story, but my worry now is that the headliner will sag with the added weight of the leather. Thoughts?
