Stop opening a new thread every time you have a question about the same engine. Are you still trying to figure out if that engine that was supposed to be out of a '64 T-bird is a 360 or a 390?
4d8b--that would not be a casting number, but could be a date code for:
4--indicates 1964 or maybe 1974
d--indicates 4th month of the year, April
8--indicates 8th day of the month.
b--according to Numberdummy, could indicate a revision or design change, not sure.

As far as if it was PI when it left the factory--if it went into a T-bird, it wasn't, as per prior post. Even if it was, it isn't now, it's a rebuilt FE with several different years parts on it.
You need to review what was put into it, confirm it's really all there, check the bore and stroke if you have doubts about the CID, and decide if this is the combo you want.
