Since you have points, put a dwell meter on it, and watch the dwell as you rev the motor. The top distributor bushing might be bad and the dwell (and timing) are jumping all over the place.
Sounds more like a bad accelerator pump though. Take off the air cleaner, look down the throat of the carb (with the choke open) and pump the gas - see if it sprays gas down the throat or not.

well i bought a electric ignition converstion kit i get it soon
when i hold the choke open and hit the gas it squirts gas in the carb
going to do my rear main seal along with the rest of the tune up
and change out the points then i will see if it does it
i will check the timing too

so i put the pertronix conversion kit in and now it wont start wow
if the timing is off will it not start ? it was starting with the pionts in it
i got the one for a 6volt system did it all according to the instructions so im stuck and my truck wont start
