I havent been to impressed with the way my truck pulls up. The thing is , this is my first Effie so I dont really know whats good or bad. The fronts had a slight warp in the rotors so I got me some Powerslots with Hawks HPS pads. Put em on and I have done about 150 Kms on em and Im still not happy. I realize its a big truck but my 23ton Mack pulls up better than this. If I stomp on the brakes I get a slight ( I do mean slight) lag, to much pedal travel and I dont get that fright like you should when you stomp on the brakes. It does pull up but its not confidence inspiring. I bled the brakes which made no difference. So is this how these things behave or should I be looking at other issues. If so what next ??
Part of the downside to 4 wheel ABS is that spongy pedal feel when you slam on the brakes and you don't feel like you're stopping fast enough. Did you follow the break in recommendation procedures for the new pads?
Have you flushed the ATF in your power steering system? When I flushed mine it made the pedal a bit more touchy.
Theres more praise than gloom with these Powerslots and Hawk pads but your the second person that complained that they wern't what they expected. Glad you posted up Brian, brings on some discussion. People do say like Chris mentioned, the brake in period and how too's to breaking in those pads..
I went with ebc yellowstuff on stock rotors and am truly impressed. Don't know how long they will last and had ceramics, not hawks on before. Right out of the box, no break in, great.
I have EBC on the back replaced at 95,000 but the front's are still on there 123,000 miles truck breaks good, just seems to wear back pads quicker. The EBC pads have a coating that is supposed to clean up the rotor. You are to break easy on any pad for 500 miles if not it could glaze the rotor. JMOP
Break in procedure??? New to me. So whats the right way to break these babies in. ????????????????
Pull one side off and see if they look glazed or a shiny look, if so ruff them up with sand paper, also the rotor and break easy for 500 miles. EBC pads have this on them to do it for ya!! Did you clean the new rotor from the oil with acetone or something before install?

I concur with this. Having used both, I poo-poo on Hawk pads as I don't think they are any better than the factory pads. I've also said before that on a truck slotted rotors are most likely a waste of $; depending on what it's use is and what calipers are being used.
But yeah, the brakes on these things aren't the greatest no matter what you do. A 2 piston caliper on a Super Duty truck really sucks; too bad Ford cut costs in an area like braking. Ford always seems to put brakes on their vehicles that are just barely not enough.

Do about 5 stops from 40mph - 5mph in one minute intervals; don't come to a complete stop. Progressively stop more aggressively with each stop. Then drive for 15 minutes or so trying not to stop, this is a cool down run. If you do have to come to a complete stop, don't stay on the brakes, put the truck in neutral and let off the pedal, trying to let the wheels move ever so slightly as you are waiting to go again. The thought here is to not get hot spots on the rotors.
Then repeat. Done. See if that helps.
I trying to decide on front pads for my early 99 F350 4x4.I read your post,if I understand correctly you got 93000 miles from ebc pads. What pads did you use? Thanks for any help. John

Bringing up an old thread. How have these EBC pads held up?I'm researching for my next project.
Thanks.
I'm going to be replacing my stock brake lines with some new stainless lines. It's one of the first things I do on a motorcycle, but these SD's seem to be thin on braking options. And for such a heavy truck that in turn is intended to tow...!

So far I will stay with EBC, replace the rear pads with "greenstuff"s and like them as well. There is a little more dust with the "yellowstuff"s but not much more than oem. Look to be wearing good as well.
