Is there a trick to getting these rotors off to be turned?

You gotta pull the assembly off the spindle.

Then take the rotor and the bearings in.

The rotor doesn't just slide off over everything?
How do I do that other than with a big hammer?

1. Remove tire and wheel. 2. Unbolt and remove brake caliper( two 1/2in. bolts behind the rotor). 3. Unbolt caliper bracket. (two large bolts behind the rotor). 4. unbolt the six screws holding the hub selector on, and pull it off.( on 97 models there are only three screws with the factory manual hubs). 5. remove the retaining ring in front of the hub gears and also the snap ring on the axle shaft splines. 6. now insert two of the hub screws into the hub gears and wiggle it and pull it out towards you. 7. Now you will need a special socket with four tabs on it to remove the locknut off the wheel bearings (this socket is available at most parts stores for $10-20 bucks).
Remove the outer nut and then you will see an indexing plate with holes and a tab for the keyway in it, pull it off and now remove the inner nut and you can pull off the rotor.

This is the procedure for working on a 4x4 truck, if yours is two wheel drive it will be somewhat easier.

I have tried to remember everything, but I am sure I forgot something, and if I did I'm sure some one else will point it out.

I hope that this is helpful to you !
