there are a few intercoolers on my local craigslist, but some dont have pics. what years and models had plastic sides? does it really matter if it is for a 6.0 or 7.3?
I was told the 6.0 is bigger thus works a little better but any is better than none. Mine's a 6.0, figured if I'm gonna put one in just as well put the most recommended and better one in.
Go for the 6.ohhh if you can. They have plastic caps and has better performance. Although I really wonder how much difference when it's all said and done.
I always heard the alum ones could hold more boost, but I've never seen plastic ends pop off either.
theres been a all alum one on cl for about 3 mos but the guy wants $450 for it. no way! he finally dropped it to $250, i am going to offer $100 and see what he says. all the junk yards have them for $100- 125. this guy must think he has a gold one. like them $7500 IDI heads i saw
aluminum was usually in the 99's.. mine is aluminum from a late '99
I don't think that is completely correct, we have a 01 excursion and I am pretty sure that has aluminum tanks on it. I bought one off ebay last year and I think that might have been from a 2000.

I guess they were random? i know i've seen a 2000 with an aluminum before. Heck who knows. if you find one just ask if it's aluminum or not i guess.
The other difference is the some came with 3" intercooler tubes and some with 3.25". Our excursion has the 3.25" tubes. But all the intercooler piping is 3".
I replaced the excursion ones and got the from Clay at Riffraff diesel, he is a site sponsor. His are made of material that the oil won't break down over time. Tight fitting also. I think Bob at diesel site carries boots also.
I got my boots from Bob @ Dieselsite. they are pretty bada$$ boots. nice and thick, sticky(unlike normal silicone boots), and they fit pretty tight. i have a hard time pulling them off my pipes after i pull the clamps off. almost have to pry them off.
Is there a decent how to about installing the 6.0 or 7.3 I/C on our OBS's? Interested in doing it but would like to see some pics first before I start diving into it.
