1989 B II a/c

Has anyone ever had to put an electric fan on just to add cooling to the condenser so the high side pressure would be lower and the air colder. Thanks

I kept my system mechanically stock, just changed the rfgt to R-134A, of course I replaced the accumulator/dryer and changed the oil in the compressor. I get about 45 degrees at the center vent on non humid days and maybe 50 on humid days. Therefore, I have found no reason to change anything.

Nope. If we are talking about having bad A/C while in town--low speed, stop lights..etc.. And the AC seems to be weak, but it works great guns when on the highway? Check your fan clutch. It's supposed to tighten down as it gets hotter to ensure correct cooling. Down the highway you'll have enough air flow to keep things cooled off, but in town with a failing fan clutch? Everything will run hotter.

I have already changed the fan clutch. It seems good in 80 degree weather but not in the 90's.

Keep in mind if the air temp outside is about 90f? The best you could expect from A/C would be about 55degree at the first vent off the system. (provided it's in re-circ/max a/c) The best bet would be to put a set of actual gauges (not the cheap ones that are attached to the can) and see what both the high and low sides are doing. It could be just a simple minor recharge is needed.
