The heat shield on my drivers side cat is rattling a bit. The band clamp that runs the cat and holds it on isn't very tight....which is why its rattling i'm guessing. Anyone know where i can get a Stainless Steel band clamp that size that i don't need a crimper to install?????
Just about every good quality stainless band clamp I can think of needs a crimper to tighten down. Have you tried any industrial supply warehouses in your area? They might have something that'll work. If you can or know someone who can you might try welding it back together with a good wire welder and stainless wire.
Maybe there's one here that might suit your needs.
Short term fix, hit up lowes or home depot and grab one of the band clamps they sell. That should kill the noise while you look for a better quality clamp. Heck, their cheap clamps should hold up well enough that you may not need to do anything more.
Ryan, how did you know it was your heat shield. I have developed a slight vibration noise, when the brake is on and the truck is in gear, if I put it in neutral it stops, if I take off the brake or rev the engine it stops. It is just a slight "tinny" sounding vibration. After readign this thread I crawled under and checked my heat shields, they felt really tight, doesn't mean it couldn't be them though. Did yours feel loose? Thanks.
Yep....thats the same as mine.....I got under there just looking for something loose...and found the back of the drivers shield is a bit looser than the back of the passengers......and when i tap it a bit it makes the same noise..

I think that's what I got. Neither shield looked loose, but just fromt he rattle and "tinny" sound of it I could tell it was exhaust related. And it sound like it is coming right from underneath me. I may look at them again. Let us know how your clamp works out.
I went down to Home Depot and got a couple of 4 inch worm drive
clamps (the type they use for dryer vent applications). I then opened
both of them up and connected them together. That gave me enough
circumference to cover the converter/shield. Tightened em up and
haven't had a rattle in over 3 years. It's a relatively cheap/easy fix
as the clamps are only a dollar or so apiece.
