Rear Spring Spacers-removal

Anyone remove the spacer from the rear-end, spring and axle housing. If so, would it be the best to remove one at time etc. Must they be re-located below the axle or totally removed. I don't have a hoist to work from only floor jacks. Thanks

As far as I can tell, you just take them out completely. I have heard that you need to get the 2wd U bolts to put back on there when you take them off. That spacer is there for the 4wd is my understanding. I was thinking about doing the same thing, just to lower the rear end down to match the front. I am to darn short to reach over that tall bedside. If you tackle this, take some photos along your removal and post them on here.
I think if you raised the rear of the truck and put jackstands on the frame rails and then let the axle hang, and then put a floor jack under the side you are working on to take the slack off of it, you should be able to do that. I would do one at a time.
Good Luck.

yup just remove the blocks one side at a time with jack stands on the frame and a floor jack on axle...also like said above you will need the shorter 2wd u bolts. or get shorter ones made

it should also level the truck out

Looks like you have your signature done. Notice any vibrations etc when you did the change? I read on other site where they need to shim the axle when installing the lowering shackle brackets.

Well its done took a few hours. Had to remove left shock at lower bracket to remove spacer. Had a difficult time to align the spring nipples into axle housing after I took out the spacer. This was probably due to jacking one side allowing the axle to shift some. Use the stock clamps, sufficient threads to tighten back up.

Can you post a picture of the truck since you are done?
I have a trailer on today, and it looked about level. Was wondering if that is what it would look like done.

Can't post pics. Rear is still slightly higher. The Spacer is 11/4 inch, deduct 1/1/2 at the bumper.

Not trying to upset anyone here but I'm pretty sure that u-bolts are supposed to be a one-and-done use. In other words they shouldn't technically be re-used, although I have done it myself. Just wanted to throw that out there FWIW. IIRC it had something to do with being torqued once and stretched, if I'm wrong I apologize in advance.

I have heard that as well, but wasn't sure it still applied to newer trucks. Its like head bolts I guess. They are stretched once and then replace as well.

In the past i have taken the U bolts on and off a few times. Never had a problem with doing that. Just check them after a few hundred miles, and your good to go.

Welcome to FTE.

If you have a better suggestion or any suggestion that will assist the OP in his project then lets have it.

This is a friendly discussion board and I intend for it to stay that way.

Again, welcome.
