well that's an every car question bud. First things first. Remove the belt. Fire it up, turn on the a8. That will engauge the clutch. Try turning the pump by hand. If it is locked up then you got a problem. If the car dies with there not bein a belt you got a short somewhere in the system. What year? Electronic ignition or a points distributor?
No,A/C works fine, just when I stop at a light it dies,A/C off stopping is no problem.IDI gets started next week,IF that tropical depression doesnt turn into a storm and come at us like it looks like it may. Man,.storms oil spills and HEAT,,,I may have to move!~!!
I had a couple of vehcles do this in the past and I ended up finding a sludged up throttle body butterfly. Remove the throttle body for the best results and get some strong throttle body cleaner and clean it until it's spotless. Give it a try or atleast check it's condition and let us know.
Is that the area where the throttle cable hooks up? I had to have the intake removed a few months ago,the thermostat housing had a stripped bolt and was leaking, the so called mech that did it left a cable off and cost me a transmission,I didnt have this problem before that.
yes, if you remove the rubber intake boot and look inside you should see the butterfly. With the car NOT running, cycle the throttle by hand and see if the backside of that butterfly is crudded up with carbon.
Throttle body and IAC are the two things I'd check. IAC might be stuck closed. Do you get a higher idle when starting it up cold or is it slow idle at startup?
[edit] IAC is the Idle Air Control - it's basically a controlled vacuum leak that the ECU opens in conjunction with adding more fuel to give the net effect of slightly "stepping on the gas" and for higher idle speed when cold. [/edit]
