Im getting ready for my EGR and oil cooler change and was wondering about the up-pipe modification. I am installing a BPD EGR cooler upgrade (lifetime warranty) but keep reading about the up-pipe scoop modification. Is there really a benifit to it? If I just remove the scoop and leave it open but not blocked I will still get gas to the EGR so no codes, and that should reduce the restriction thru the pipe right? Let me know if my thinking is wrong. I dont really want to run tunes to get rid of a CEL, but reducing the total amount of gasses flowing thru the EGR plus reducing pipe restriction seems like a win?
Thanks
That's a good question. There is an EGR code for low flow, but I'm not sure what sets it. I know the 03/04 trucks didn't even have a scoop to speak of inside and I'd dang sure want that restriction out. I vote for removal
