Yes.. but the 5.8 is the better motor for that truck and if you are going from a 5.0 to a 5.8 you need a complete 5.8 EFI since very few parts interchange with the 5.0.
What is about the mileage on a 351W for you guys because I dont think mine is getting good mileage at all. Prob just because I got used to driving a newer fuel saving vehicle for a long time.
My 250 with the 5.8 and ZF 5sp hardly ever sees anything over 9 in the city and 14 on the highway at 75. Thats with 4.10 gears and 4x4. Expect to see single digits with the C6 behind the 5.8 in the city. Hardly anything better on the HWY either. I have both. 89 and a 96. Both F250s. Both gas hogs.
Definatly not complaining as i drive the 96 as a DD and it will pull anything i put behind her. She's a wonderful ole brute

I think depends on what you have... I calculated 11-12 mpg on the F-250 351w I just brought home this last winter. And the engine was burning oil and leaking radiator fluid... Really worn out 351w... I have 3.55 gears on it so that helps. 4.10's eat the gas because they are pulling gears not highway gas savers.
I plan to put my Zf-542 behind the 351w once she is rebuilt, with e-fan conversion, and keeping the 3.55's for now. I'm hoping to see 13-14 avg and 16 hwy, but i guess well see where my hopes get me. It also depends on how you like to drive too. Keeping your foot in it, and running 75mph isn't going to do you any favors on gas milage...
Yep... but like everything else it's the total combo that makes the difference.. 3.55 gears, 31" tires, and an AOD trans with the super deep 0.67 overdrive ratio. The stick shifts only have an 0.80 overdrive ratio so you would have to drive much slower to get similar milage. I usually cruise at 70mph which produces about 1800rpm with that combo, with a ZF the same engine speed occurs at 60mph, and with 4.10 gears it would be way down at 52mph.
Which is wayyy to slow for me. lol i was just using my truck and your truck as an example on how different mileage the 5.8 can produce with different gear/trans combos. Not complaining on bit
Well I am running 4.10 gears with a crappy m5r2 tranny until I get the new zf I am planning to get soon. At 65 miles an hour I am in the range of 3500 rpm driving down the highway. Not very good. I do a lot of highway driving so I am thinking of changing over to a 3.55 setup to save gas but I do like the 4.10's for when I plan on pulling, so its a win/lose for me. Also I am running 36 coursers at the moment so that kinda kills my gas as well..
I just bought the truck about a month and a half ago and I am just going through the truck and redoing just about everything. The motor came out of a 88 or 89 bronco and they left the original tranny and changed the gearing to 4.10. I really dont think they knew what they were doing. OR THEY DID. I have no idea.
